| Tips for Successful Link Exchange |
|
Link exchange isn’t simply about sending out an email to each and every website. Rather, it is a bit complicated process which requires a solid understanding of the basics. The biggest mistake often made is linking to sites that are irrelevant websites. In fact, search engines do not recognize, and even penalize sites that link to one another with no relevance. So, linking to irrelevant sites can simply lead you to risk your chances of being penalized and banned from major search engine results.
The best way for you to approach a successful and effective link exchange program is to exchange your links with only similar websites; whose visitors would naturally have an interest in your products or services. If you are beginner, devoting a few hours one to two days a week just focusing on link building wouldn’t be a bad idea. This requires effort but is definitely worth it.
An easy way to begin is by performing a thorough search using keywords and key phrases that relate to your website. Take some time to view each of the websites of interest, and try to view as many pages as you can in each website. This may seem to be time consuming, but it is worth doing. A website judged simply by looking at its home page may be misleading as the inner pages might contain the information you are looking for. In short, just be sure that a website is one that you would recommend to your visitors.
Another factor to consider when you are browsing through prospective websites is how the website is set up for a link exchange program.
Following are some key areas you need to inquire before selecting a website for a link exchange program.
1. Does the website have a link to its main links page visible on the home page? Exchanging links with websites those bury the links to their exchange partners is of no use to you.
2. Are the listing partners organized into appropriate categories on their
main links page? It's important to put your exchanges into appropriate categories for allowing viewers to quickly access to the link of interest.
3. Do they list more than 25 listings per page? If each links page features more than 25 links and requires a lot of scrolling then the changes that your link will be located are slim.
4. Does the website provide useful content?
If a website practices providing misleading information then chances that a visitor spending considerable time on the website are slim. If this is the case then there is absolutely no chance that your link will be viewed.
Link Exchanges practices to keep away from
There are a number of ways one can exchange links with other websites. However, there are a number of ways that are not recommended for link exchange, which create detrimental effect on a website.

Link Farms:
You should definitely abstain from this. Link Farms are strictly set up to
gain link popularity and anyone can submit their website to their list once register with them. There are some link farms having more than thousands of websites who have agreed to do a link exchange.
Some general problems associated with Link Farms:
a.. links neither organized nor categorized.
b.. irrelevant sites linked.
c.. a huge number of links on a page makes it a possibility that your link will be located on a page that it is hard to find.
d.. major search engines penalize sites using link farms to gain link popularity.
FFA Sites:
Major search engines view FFA (free for all) sites as a means of artificially
inflating your link popularity. Search engines view FFA websites as
the same as Link Farms, therefore you risk of your website being banned
from their search results.
Link Exchange offer:
Once you have found appropriate websites for a link exchange, look for the contact information to the respective Webmasters and send them an email. In case the contact information includes the webmasters name, be sure you personalize your emails.
You aim to include your name, your URL, a short description of your
website, and contact information with the website, so do mention what you liked about their site as well as the mutual benefits you both can receive by exchanging links.
Remember, some websites may not agree to do a link exchange with
you. Doesn’t matter, only the chosen ones those offer a solid resource to your website, will be an improvement. |
