Larry Page, CEO, Google Inc announced that the company is shutting down ten of its projects including Google Desktop. Google Desktop has stopped working from 14th September'11. This dropping process has also included all the APIs and other widgets of the project. The current shift in data storage from local to cloud is the main reason behind this closure of Google desktop, as declared by Google's CEO.

This list also includes Aardbvark which was introduced last year. The project was about experimenting social search and was designed to help people answer few questions which are used in searching the most qualifying person on the web. This project is likely to be stopped within September last this year. The company has requested its users to download their personal data related to their accounts.

Google's Fast Flip will also stop working within few days which was used by the users to browse through the Google new pages, giving them a magazine-style layout to the news pages. Google Sidewiki and Subscribed Links will also be shutting down soon. Users have the time up to 15th Sepetember'11 to download archived data from Subscribed Links. But, Sidewiki is not going to face an immediate chopping board of Google. It has been confirmed from the company's side that Sidewiki will work for few more months, by that time users can download their saved data.

The main reason behind chopping down these Google projects is facilitate Google's employees with more time so that they can concentrate on larger projects like Google+. Google Image Labeler, Google Web Security, Google Pack, Google Notebook, and Google Maps API for Flash are the other projects which are going to be stopped.
