San Francisco, April 19, 2010 - 'Chirp' - the first Twitter conference for developers was held on 14^th and 15^th of April in San Francisco. Twitter revealed some impressive statistics displaying its growth and also made announcements regarding its future plans.

The speakers from Twitter revealed that the microblogging website has crossed user base of 105 million and more than 300,000 users from around the world are joining Twitter everyday. With this ever increasing number of worldwide users, Twitter is sure to retain its top position amongst microblogging websites.

The announcements that followed included introduction to the Geolocation services that Twitter would soon begin to provide. It also plans to start its own URL shortening service to remove dependence on third party tools. Also, new applications were announced for Android OS, iPhone (application named as Tweetie) and research on Blackberry mobile phones.
