Google the search engine major, has unveiled several updates to its customized homepage, iGoogle on its Analyst Day.

With the new updates, users can easily create their own home page. To change the home page, a person has to check on category box for news and other modules. Furthermore, a person is allowed to change the background theme of the page which will be changed dynamically to match the local time of day.

With this new updates, people can create their own tab categories and can popularize their items with the module common for those people who have created the same tabs.

For example, in its newly launched new financial tab on iGoogle, other modules can be synchronized on the same page. Suppose, if you are typing in the stock ticker with the keyword Google-"GOOG", the search will automatically change the modules on the page and include information relevant for the Google such as stock price, charts, company overview, similar companies and sector information.

When asked that if it is a portal by Jessica Ewing, who works on the iGoogle team. She answered that usually portals provide a proprietary content to users but with the changes made into iGoogle help users to get information from more than 200,000 feeds and 20,000 gadgets from different sources. She added that the customized information on iGoogle has becoming the fastest growing product being offered by Google.

Besides, showcasing the changes made to iGoogle, Google also launched free IMAP support for all of Gmail so that people get better access to e-mail through Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird and other clients.

Jonathan Rosenberg, senior vice president of project management at Google, said the new offerings is to enforce the company’s strive to serve as "the Google holy trinity of search, ads and apps."
