Microsoft to launch new search technique
08 May 2008, Microsoft is going to unveil its new search techniques about Live Search Engine with an intention to catch up with Google. The company plans to make a formal announcement at a company-sponsored advertising conference by the end of May, 2008.

Informing reporters about this plan, Microsoft Chairman, Bill Gates said that Microsoft will be presenting the upcoming improvements of the search while talking to the media persons in Japan.

In his comments, Gates insisted that in the company’s spring update, new types of vertical search and improvements are expected. According to the company sources, Microsoft is planning to add some shopping-specific search tools as an extension to existing tools, debuted in Fall 2007 release.

Interestingly, estimates suggest that, Microsoft has been holding third rank in total registered search, accounting for 9.4 percent of core U.S. search queries in February, according to ComScore. Google, held a 59.8 percent share, while Yahoo was second, with 21.3 percent. The company is also focusing and trying to build "search experiences" into its various Web products.

While having a word with the reporters Windows Live General Manager Brian Hall said "We think we can do a lot more to drive contextual search as we see a lot of opportunities to push the envelope there."

The company refused to offer details about what is scheduled in the next iteration of its search product, which has a code-named "Rome."

Further continuing his conversation with reporters in Japan, Gates informed that currently Google is holding high market share in search; and Microsoft is striving hard to make a presence in this area.
