Thursday, 17 September, 2009 - Microsoft's Bing has gained huge popularity in last few months with the number of searches using Bing rising more than 1.1 billion. This rise is 22.1 percent over the previous month.

This increase in the number of users leaves Bing with 10.7 percent of the market in August, which is 9 percent more than July.

Looking at the increasing market share of Bing, SEO companies might need to extend their focus to the Microsoft search engine as well.

Google and Yahoo still top Microsoft Bing in terms of market share and user popularity, though Yahoo has seen a slight downfall in its user base last month. Nielsen reports more than 1.7 billion searches through Yahoo this August, which is 4.2 percent less than that of July.

In spite of the fluctuations in search counts of major search engines, Google holds a strong grip on the market with more than 7 billion searches performed through it last month. The figure covers about 65 percent of the total user base.

The growth in Bing's popularity necessitates SEO experts to start paying heed towards the new search potential.
