Kuala Lumpur, 10 December, 2009 - Friendster, a leading social media website is announced to be acquired by MOL Global, an affiliate of MOL AccessPortal Berhad – the leading online payment solutions provider based in Malaysia.

The combination of MOL and Friendster will create a distribution and commerce network that is estimated to be the largest of its kind in Asia. This network will have an integrated payment platform for buying games, music, video, gift items etc and will take the social networking industry to the next level.

MOL already has partnerships with game publishers and distributors of music, video, movies etc., and has an established market in India and many East Asian countries. Friendster had a user base of more than 75 million in Asia alone in the year 2003.

According to Richard Kimber, chief executive officer at Friendster, this relationship between MOL and Friendster will be an industry-changing event.
