November 2010 – Google keeps on reinventing the ways of providing better and quicker search results and this is what makes this search engine a preferred choice among a majority of searchers. While you might already know that Google doesn’t display more than two results from the same domain (at least on its first page), you’d be surprised to know that Google nowadays returns multiple search results from the same domain.
Interestingly, according to Google, "this happens for searches that indicate a strong user interest in a particular domain". Now for example, if the keywords suggest a brand name or a domain name, the results are also likely to be pertaining to the same domain or brand.
Google is apparently taking the idea ahead to allow more queries to show multiple results from the same domain. According to Google, the results are still diverse and from multiple domains. Now Google algorithm may predict certain pages from a particular domain or website to be more relevant than others. This may result in Google returning more than two results from the same domain.
Though this change may come as a great opportunity for businesses whose web identity is ranking on top and is expanding up to four results, for others it may not be that good a proposition. Suppose you are already on the bottom of the first page and then suddenly the other domain starts expanding up to four results, where would your website’s ranking go? Certainly, it's going to be pushed to page two. And this would surely not be a good sign for your business.
Well it seems that this change is proving to be ‘one’s loss is another's gain' and vice versa!
