October 30th, 2009 – The ‘Lists’ feature that Twitter launched for a small section of its users last month is now available for all.
The ‘Lists’ feature allows you to create a list of users and create groups. It makes following updates in a more organized way.
The lists appear on the right panel and by clicking on the same, you can filter out and view only those tweets posted by the users added to the list selected. A list is public by default but can also be made private.
The number of lists a user belongs to will be visible on the right side of his home page (the place where the total number of tweets by the user was displayed earlier). The tweet count has been moved to the space below the user name on the right panel itself.
A friend can also be added to a list by going on his or her profile and clicking on the list option below the user name. New lists can also be created from the same page.
Right now, there is no option to search for new lists other than going to different profiles and checking out the lists they are listed in.
It is anticipated that this feature will also help in judging the influence of a Twitter user. The number of lists a user belongs to will also be a parameter of judging the influence of the user, in addition to the number of followers one has.
