San Fransisco, 22 September 2009 - Twitter has recently declared a new API called the ‘Retweet’ that would soon become a part of the service.
'Retweeting' will become neater and easier with a link to retweet below each tweet in the timeline that will appear on taking the mouse over the tweet, along with the 'reply' link.
Another major difference Twitter users will notice is the collapsible set of avatars of users, who retweeted a particular tweet. The avatars will be now visible below the tweet. The retweets will be neatly organized into three tabs – retweets by users you follow, retweets by you and your tweets that have been retweeted.
A mock up of the proposed API has been released for reference but the real API might bring more surprises.
The act of retweeting will get an official status with this move as until now it was only a practice followed by the users with no formal acknowledgment by Twitter. With the new format, there will be other statistics like retweet count that can be analyzed besides the number of followers to evaluate the influence of any Twitter user.
