Magento is one of the best open source eCommerce platforms, allows you to control your web store’s look, content and functionality. But the most alluring feature that makes it the most preferred eCommerce platform – is its SEO friendly modules, extensions and tags.

Here in this article we are thus discussing 5 most important SEO friendly tags that you should not fail to add in your Magento powered e-store.

User Tags:

Magento allows every customer logging into a Magento web store to add descriptive tags for searching products of their interest easily, every time they visit the site. All the customers’ added tags to the product page, stay in a pending queue till the store owner approves them.

This means that as a store owner you can prevent inappropriate tags from being added to the site. After a tag is approved, the customer adding the tag can find it on the site after logging in and can click on it to find all products under that category. This tag make navigation an easy breather and such it work as a SEO friendly attribute.

Template Tags:

These tags are used while setting up pages or templates in Magento. Though these tags are used mostly by a web programmer or designer; but these include special keywords and are placed inside doubled curly braces. They are basically programming shortcuts. These tags are broadly classified into two main types.

One is block tags, which instructs a page to insert a piece of text or code and the other one link tags, which insert a pre-defined URL. The method of inserting template tags mostly depend on the content management system that is used in conjunction with Magento.

Block Tags:

These tags basically call up a piece of text or code and generally look like {{block id='example'}}, here 'example' is replaced by the static block name of code, stored somewhere in the CMS. When you need to be more specific, try the longer form : {{block type='module/package_classname' template='path/to/template.phtml'}}. Here, the code block is defined with its location. Another SEO friendly attribute loved by the webmasters.

Link Tags:

These tags call up a URL based on a pre-defined path. For example, when a websites stores all of its product photos in the directory 'http://www.example.com/products/images/', you  can use {{media URL='books/davinci-code.jpg'}} to create a link to 'http://www.example.com/products/images/books/davinci-code.jpg'. Other link tags can be defined for design elements ({{skin URL}}) or the store home page ({{store URL}}). The syntax remains same for all three link tags.

Nonindex or Nofollow Tags:

Apart from implementing canonical tags, the other tags you need to add in your Magento site is the 'noindex" and "nofollow" tags. Nofollow tags maximize the flow of authority of the site throughout the website. One can add this tags through Robot.txt file or by using Yoast's "MetaRobots" plugin. Alongside noindex tags should be added on "page-by-page" basis.

Being Magento website SEO company, we can comment that, an online store would become a total fail if it has not been marketed well.  Having said that. all these and more attributes as such actually took Magento to the heights of popularity that it is enjoying these days among the eCommerce site owners.
